What's the difference between SAE 1018 and A572?
I've got the ASTM Book before me and A-572 is defined as "High strength, low alloy, columbium-vanadium steels of structural quality". On the other hand, SAE 1018 is a low carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.18 %, with no alloying element whatsoever. So, in this case, I'd say that you shouldn't use it in lieu of A-572.See all results for this questionWhat are the requirements for a Grade a572-g50?The Grade specification is directly relative to the minimum yield strength requirements. A572-G50 requires a minimum yield strength of 50,000 psi. and includes a minimum tensile strength of 65,000 psi. The yield strength measures the amount of stress load that the material can withstand before beginning to deform and bend.See all results for this questionWhat are the properties of A572 grade steel? The following material properties are ASTM specifications and will be confirmed on the Mill Test Report. The following composition properties are ASTM specifications for the A572 grades. Other alloys can be used at the discretion of the producer, but is limited to the ranges of four types: 1, 2, 3 and 4.See all results for this question

Back then we did mill purchases from Bethlehem Steel in Pennsylvania, and we'd back haul loads from Bethlehem to our plant after our drivers made their deliveries to various job sites up north. Later on we started seeing dual certs. (A36/A572 gr 50), and eventually tri certs.
